Most historic town centers will have at least one çarşı – a maze-like traditional marketplace with vendors selling everything from cheap souvenirs to handmade leather and metal crafts. Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar (known as the Kapalı Çarşı, or “covered marketplace” in Turkish) is one of the world’s most famous markets, but the bazaars in Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa are arguably more atmospheric and authentic. The Ibis Izmir Alsancak offers clean, safe, mid-level accommodation close to the center of one of Turkey’s most progressive cities.

I also found a hammam inside the Kale Konak Cave Hotel and enjoyed half an hour there. After relaxing, I got out to conquer the beauty of Uçhisar with my fully charged cameras. Uçhisar is the highest point in Cappadocia, and the main feature is a massive cone rock.
